2024 NNE HPV Rally - post event account

We had a great day in Kennebunk on Saturday for the 20th Northern New England Human Powered Vehicle Rally. The Rally is all about showcasing the diversity of cycles that exist in order to foster their use and build a stronger cycling culture in our community. This year showed the most diverse turnout so far - There were a wide range of different types of cycles from a tall bike to a load carrier to a velomobile and several electric assisted upright e-bikes  and e-assisted recumbent two wheelers and trikes.

We gathered at 10:00 at Rogers Pond, hung out and held a great show and tell where each person talked about their ride for 5-10 minutes, then at 12:45 we moved up the hill for the May Day Parade. Aside from a scary accident while waiting for the parade to start, it went well with lots of fun comments from the onlookers After the parade we pedaled out to the beaches, checking our Parson's Beach, Mothers Beach and Middle Beach, stopping just short of Kennebunk/Gooches Beach by the Narragansett. The scenery is always beautiful out that way, and we also made note of the progress toward recovering from the storms this past Winrter. For the return trip we pedaled up the Bridle Path before heading back up Main St. (although I think some took the back way) and returning to Rogers Pond.

Everyone had a great time and we look forward to doing it again-even bigger and better -next year…stay tuned!
